Mancub

For My Son

Written on the bank of Moccasin Point (Tuolumne, CA)

your feet are wet,
tangled in seaweed
mine are dug into the sand

your hands are orange
with ‘power’ fish bait
mine are blue with ink

your mouth is wide
with words and reminiscences
mine is curled into a smile

your eyes are oddly green
and full of mischief
mine are exactly the same

overhead the clouds close in
on us heavy with rain

but for this moment
we are more
than mother and son
-we are friends
